BRACIS 2020 - Rio Grande

Brazilian Conference on Intelligent Systems

October 20 to 23, 2020

ABOUT

The 9th Brazilian Conference on Intelligent Systems (BRACIS), the 16h Encontro Nacional de Inteligência Artificial e Computacional (ENIAC), and the 12th Concurso de Teses e Dissertações em Inteligência Artificial e Computacional (CTDIAC) will be held in Rio Grande, RS, Brazil from October, 20 to 23, 2020.

BRACIS originated from the combination of the two most important scientific events in Brazil in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Computational Intelligence (CI): the Brazilian Symposium on Artificial Intelligence - SBIA (22 editions), and the Brazilian Symposium on Neural Networks - SBRN (13 editions). ENIAC is a national forum for researchers, practitioners, educators and students to present and discuss innovations, trends, experiences, developments and work in progress in the fields of Artificial and Computational Intelligence. CTDIAC is a satellite event whose goals are to disseminate and award the best dissertations and theses (MSc and PhDs concluded in Brazilian universities from June 2018 to May 2020) in Artificial and Computational Intelligence areas.

In this year, the Symposium on Knowledge Discovery, Mining and Learning (KDMiLe) will be held in conjunction with BRACIS 2020. This sysposium aims at integrating researchers, practitioners, developers, students and users to present their research results, to discuss ideas, and to exchange techniques, tools, and practical experiences – related to the Data Mining and Machine Learning areas.

COVID UPDATE

Due to the COVID pandemic and the sanitary and economical related issues, BRACIS 2020 will be a virtual (online) conference. Although we may lose the opportunity of interacting in person, a virtual conference will imply fairly reduced costs for organizers and participants, substantially reducing the registration fees and traveling costs. We're getting advice from other conferences that are going virtual, and working out the best ways to offer talks and presentations without losing the social aspect that has always been a central part of BRACIS.

CALL FOR PAPERS

>>>> BRACIS 2020 will be a virtual (online) conference <<<<

Deadline for paper submissions: May 1, 2020 > May 20, 2020 > 11:59 PM May 30, 2020, UTC-11 NEW deadline (Hard)

The Program Committee of the 9th Brazilian Conference on Intelligent Systems (BRACIS) invites submissions of original research papers for the conference from October 20th to 23th, 2020. Due to the COVID pandemic, BRACIS 2020 will be a virtual (online) conference.

BRACIS is one of the most important events in Brazil for researchers in the fields of Artificial and Computational Intelligence. The Brazilian Conference on Intelligent Systems (BRACIS) originated from the combination of the two most important scientific events in Brazil in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Computational Intelligence (CI): the Brazilian Symposium on Artificial Intelligence - SBIA (21 editions ), and the Brazilian Symposium on Neural Networks - SBRN (12 editions). The conference aims to promote theory and applications of Artificial and Computational Intelligence. BRACIS also aims for the promotion of international level research by exchanging scientific ideas among researchers, practitioners, scientists, and engineers.

IMPORTANT DATES

  • Paper submission: May 1, 2020 >>> May 20, 2020 >>> 11:59 PM May 30, 2020, UTC-11 NEW Deadline (Hard)
  • Notification to authors: June 10, 2020 >>> June 30, 2020 >>> July 10, 2020
  • Camera-ready copy due: July 10, 2020 >>> July 20, 2020 >>> July 30, 2020

SPECIAL ISSUES

Authors of selected papers will be invited to submit extended versions of their work to be appreciated for publication in special issues after the conference.

SUBMISSION DETAILS

***Please, note that BRACIS submission is double-blind***

This means that both the reviewer and author identities are concealed from the reviewers, and vice versa, throughout the review process. To facilitate this, authors need to ensure that their manuscripts are prepared in a way that does not reveal their identity.

Submissions should include significant and unpublished research on all aspects of Artificial Intelligence (AI) or Computational Intelligence (CI).

New submission format

Submitted papers must be written in English, and not exceed 15 pages, including all tables, figures, references, and appendices.

Formatting instructions, as well as templates for Word and LaTeX, are available at Conference Proceedings guidelines

All submitted papers will be reviewed by at least three experts in the field. Accepted papers will be included in the BRACIS proceedings, and submitted for publication in Springer in Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS) / Lecture Notes in Artificial Intelligence (LNAI) series.

Only PDF files can be uploaded in the submission system.

The category COMBO: Registration + SBC Membership refers to a discounted rate applied when registering to the event and becoming a member of the Brazilian Computer Society (SBC). This modality was created intending to make these two benefits cheaper than purchasing each one separately, being the most advantageous option to whom is not an SBC member yet. More information can be found on the SBC's FAQ page (only in Brazilian Portuguese). Please read the FAQ about the SBC Combo (in Portuguese).

Student fees are available only for those enrolled in a higher education institution as undergraduate or graduate students (Ph. D or Master). Proof of student status containing affiliation, attendee's name, enrollment course, and current date must be shown upon request. Failure to present such a proof document will imply paying the difference for the professional registration category (with no discount) if you wish to attend BRACIS. The student fee does not apply to pos-docs.

    PUBLICATION POLICY

Each professional registration covers only one accepted paper in any BRACIS'2020 event. Each teacher or student registration covers only one accepted paper in CTDIAC, ENIAC, or KDMiLe.

If you have more than one paper accepted, you must pay an extra fee for each one of them, according to the proceedings. For instance, a professional author of 2 papers in BRACIS, 1 in ENIAC, and 1 in CTDIAC must pay 1 Extra paper fee - BRACIS proceedings and 2 Extra paper fee - ENIAC, CTDIAC or KDMiLe proceedings.

A student author of a paper in BRACIS not covered by a professional registration must pay 1 Paper fee for (graduate or undergraduate) student author - BRACIS proceedings.

Papers accepted in BRACIS must be registered up to Aug 13th, 2020, while papers accepted in ENIAC, CTDIAC, or KDMiLe must be registered up to Oct 1st, 2020.

    CANCELATION POLICY

Registrations can be canceled up to Sep 30th, 2020. Only 70% of the registration fee will be returned.

    PAYMENT

Payments can be made by bank ticket, debit and credit cards, note of commitment (nota de empenho), and billing. Bank ticket and debit card payment can be made up to Oct 15th, 2020.

    VENUE

The BRACIS will be organized by Centro de Ciências Computacionais (C3) from Universidade Federal do Rio Grande (FURG), in Rio Grande – RS.

    CITY

Rio Grande is a municipality located on the south coast of Rio Grande do Sul situated between Lagoa Mirim, Lagoa dos Patos, the largest lagoon of Brazil, and the Atlantic Ocean. It has over 208,000 inhabitants, according to estimates by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics published in 2016. The city has built its wealth throughout its history due to the strong industrial movement. Even today, it is one of the richest cities in the state, mainly due to the port, the second in cargo handling in Brazil.
